The Was & Were Fun Deck® App is an educational tool designed for the iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod touch® platforms, featuring all 52 illustrated flash cards from the original set by Super Duper® Publications, complete with audio narration for each card’s text. Educators can select specific cards for students to review, utilizing fill-in-the-blank prompts to reinforce the correct usage of the "was" and "were" verb forms. Sample prompts include statements such as, “Brad ___ washing dishes” and “Brad and Deb ___ washing dishes.” The app offers an Automatic Scoring feature, enabling students to choose from two answer options for each prompt, facilitating immediate feedback on their responses.

The interface is straightforward and user-friendly. Each student views an illustration and can read the prompt aloud or tap the screen to hear it. Responses are entered by touching the selected answer. Transition between cards is smooth, achieved by sliding the current card aside. To switch between players, users tap the bar at the top of the screen and select a name from the list. The app also supports automatic progression through cards and players via the Auto-Advance setting within the Game Options menu. Users can pause a session at any time for later resumption through the Pause Game option, with continuation available via the main menu. Upon completion, results are displayed visually in a graph, with options to print or email the data for record-keeping or further analysis.

Key features of the Was & Were Fun Deck® App include:

  • Ability to operate in portrait or landscape orientation
  • Selective use of all 52 cards or a customizable subset
  • Tracking of correct and incorrect responses for an unlimited number of players
  • Manual or automatic navigation through cards and players
  • Immediate feedback for responses
  • Flexible game management, allowing pause and later continuation
  • Visual representation of results through graphs and detailed performance reports indicating missed questions
  • Options to print, email, and share session data
